EITC Awareness Day on January 27th at Main Public Library

Laredo Family Economic Success Coalition is raising awareness of these services on National EITC Awareness Day on January 27
th, by holding a press conference at the Laredo Main Public Library, a well-known VITA site, at 1120 E Calton Rd at 10am. I urge you to spread the news about VITA. Please locate your nearest VITA site at www.laredofesc.org.
The EITC is a refundable tax credit available to qualifying low-wage workers and their families. Anyone earning $49,078 or less from wages, self-employment or farming in 2011 could qualify. Many people will qualify for the first time this year due to changes in their income, their marital status or parental status, according to the IRS. Yet the agency estimates only four out of five eligible workers currently claim their EITC.

For the past two months, community members have been training to become VITA volunteers. We certify VITA volunteers who will prepare federal income tax returns in January, 2012.
